I’m Ross, owner of Frothy Bike Co.
First and foremost I’m a rider, when I’m not working in the shop I am out on any one of my bikes – at the moment it’s all about gravel or the audax and will head out for a downhill refresher now and again!
I’m Dumfries born and raised so grew up surrounded by great countryside to explore both on and off-road cycling. From building my own jumps in the local woods to exploring the wider trails of the 7Stanes and later bike packing through the Hebrides, I have a huge range of experience and am always adapting and getting into new aspects of cycling as life goes on!
As a kid I was always repairing bikes out of my parents shed, as a young teenager I worked in a mainstream bike shop, at the ripe age of 19 I took over the bike shop on Queen St which I ran for 7 years and learnt all the fundamentals of running a business. Then with itchy feet, I sold up to work as a team mechanic – working with some of the best elite mountain biking teams and mechanics around.
Just when you think it can’t get much better than that for a bike mechanic, I then landed a job in the mecca of downhill biking – Morzine, in the heart of the French Alps. It was three Summer seasons later in 2018, when I had ridden every trail in the Portes Du Soleil and was managing a fleet of 500 bikes and 12 mechanics, that I felt inspired to bring all of my knowledge and energy back to where it all started.
Frothy #1 on the Whitesands ran from April 2019 – April 2024, an amazing bike shop, workshop and cafe! This was such an amazing business to run but through the pandemic and then annual flooding to deal with as well as growing my own family with my wife and the arrival of two beautiful babies (2022 and 2024…not together!) – it was time to downsize the business. So with the support of all my family and friends, I decided it was time to close the cafe and relocate the bike business.
Frothy #2 is now where it’s at! In July 2024 I relocated to Heathhall Industrial Estate which so far is going great – fixing bikes never gets boring for me strangely! Location wise it’s easier to get to for all my great existing and new customers and I still have big plans to get the place how I want it (including a sofa and coffee machine!).
